Support Our Patient Assistance Program

OpenBiome is committed to facilitating safe access to fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). For patients with recurrent Clostridium difficile infection for whom the cost of an OpenBiome treatment would pose a significant financial burden, our Patient Assistance Program covers the cost of material for use in their fecal transplant procedure.

Your contribution will cover treatments for patients who could otherwise not afford them.

The cost of an OpenBiome treatment includes rigorous safety and quality measures, including 200-point clinical, blood, and stool screening for donors, processing and storing stool in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-level facility, and ensuring temperature-controlled overnight shipment across the country.

As the country’s first nonprofit stool bank, OpenBiome has expanded access to FMT – a medical procedure that treats recurrent C. difficile infections by transferring donor stool, and the beneficial bacteria it contains, into a patient’s digestive system. Since 2013, we have delivered over 44,000 FMT preparations to a network of more than 1,200 hospitals and clinics across the United States.

Levels of Support

To ensure that FMT remains accessible to patients who may not be able to cover the cost of this treatment, we are actively fundraising and growing our financial assistance reserves. Donations of any size will make a difference in a patient's life; every dollar contributed to our Patient Assistance Program goes directly toward covering pro bono treatments. Examples of how your donation will be used to serve patients are listed below.
